Friday, May 8: Amman

Arrival later in the day and courtesy call at the royal palace.

Saturday, May 9: Jordan

   
Visit to Mount Nebo and its memorial to Moses, then to the site of Madaba University, administered by the Latin-rite Catholic patriarchate of Jerusalem. Later in the day he will meet with Muslim leaders at Amman's largest house of worship, the Mosque of al-Hussein bin Talal. At the close of the day he will lead a Vespers service at the Melkite Catholic cathedral of St. George.

Sunday, May 10: Jordan

morning   Pope celebrates Mass at a soccer stadium in Amman.
afternoon   Visit to the site of Christ's Baptism on the Jordan River.

Monday May 11: Jerusalem

11 a.m.   Arrival of pope at Ben Gurion airport. Welcome by the President of Israel, Shimon Peres and governmental and religious leaders.
12 noon   Pope arrives by helicopter at Mount Scopus, is greeted by the mayor of Jerusalem. He will then proceed to the nunciature of the Apostolic Delegation on the Mount of Olives, where he will stay during his visit.
4:30 p.m.   Meeting with Shimon Peres at the presidential residence.
5:30 p.m.   Visit to Yad Vashem with President Shimon Peres, followed by a ceremony of remembrance.
6:45 p.m   Interreligious meeting with representatives of Jews, Muslims, Druze and Christians of the Holy Land.

Tuesday May 12: Jerusalem

9 a.m  

Visit to the Haram al-Sharif and meeting with the Mufti of Jerusalem.

10 a.m.   Arrival of pope at the Western Wall. Ceremony in the presence of the Chief Rabbis of Israel
10:45 a.m.   Visit of pope to Israeli rabbinate (Hekhal Shlomo). Meeting with the two Chief Rabbis of Israel followed by remarks by the pope and the rabbis.
12 Noon   Prayer in the Upper Room (Cenacle)
1 p.m.   Arrival at the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, meeting with Catholic Ordinaries in the Holy Land and meals. The pope will then travel to the nunciature to rest.
4 p.m.   Arrival of the pope at the Church of Gethsemane
4:30 p.m.   Solemn outdoor Mass in the Kidron
6:30 p.m.   Pope returns to the nunciature.

Wednesday May 13: Bethlehem

8:30 a.m.  

Pope arrives in Bethlehem. Welcome by the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Salam Fayaad and Palestinian representatives.

9:15 a.m.   Visit to the Basilica of the Nativity.
10 a.m.   Solemn Mass at Manger Square.
12:30 p.m.   Lunch and rest.
4 p.m.   Pope's arrival at the refugee camp Al-'Ayda near Bethlehem.
5 p.m.   Departure ceremony of the pope from Bethlehem in the presence of President Mahmoud Abbas.
    NB: It is planned for the pope to visit a charitable institution. The place has not yet been determined.

Thursday May 14: Galilee

    Today's program is still under study. The pope will celebrate a solemn Mass in the morning in Nazareth.
    Benedict XVI will visit the Basilica of the Annunciation. There will be a welcome by the mayor of the city and a meeting with religious leaders of Galilee.

Friday 15 May: Conclusion

9:15 a.m.   Meeting with the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem at the Orthodox Patriarchate.
10 a.m.   Arrival at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Welcoming ceremony by the Custodian of the Holy Land and visit and prayer.
11 a.m.   Arrival of pope at the Armenian quarter and meeting with the Armenian Orthodox patriarch.
1 p.m.   Departure ceremony at Ben Gurion airport in the presence of President Shimon Peres.
2 p.m.   Pope departs on an El Al aircraft.
