Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI on Supersessionism and Covenant

In July 2018, emeritus pope Benedict XVI published in Communio: International Catholic Review an essay in German that critiques certain theological concepts that have emerged in post-Nostra Aetate Catholic theologies of Judaism. An official English translation was published in January 2019. During the intervening months in Europe, however, the essay sparked public controversy. This section provides published commentaries of selected texts in this mostly German-language exchange. Note that two of the items below were subsequent comments by Benedict himself. "Unofficial translation" denotes articles roughly rendered into English. Refer to the original texts for precision.
