The Executive Board of the International Council of Christians and Jews issued today a "Statement on the Global Ecological Crisis" in response to recent and current environmental disasters around the world. The release of the statement coincides with the observance by Christians of many nations of the "Day of Prayer for Creation" on September 1st, which marks the beginning of the "Season of Creation," an ecumenical initiative of the Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and Anglican churches that runs through October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.
